Online Nursing Schools

If you are looking to complete your nursing degree then there are many online nursing schools for you to choose from.  Online nursing degrees offer you a varied nursing education that can be completed at your own pace and at a time that suits you.

The demand for nursing professionals is on the rise due to a nursing shortage that is likely to create upwards of one million new roles by the year 2018. Nursing enrollments, both online and offline are on the increase due to a lot of physicians opting out of primary care for specialized practices. Added to the expected increase in amount of patients needing nursing care, this will add to the shortage of nursing practitioners. This will inevitably lead to a rise in pay for all nursing jobs.

In the next few years it is expected that due to the demand for more certified nurses and nursing assistants. There will be many more universities providing online classes for nursing.

The most common nursing degrees that are taken online today are :

RN-to-BSN degree course

MSN (Master of Science in Nursing) degree courses

LPN-to-BSN programs

How is the training administered in nursing schools online ?

This usually depends on the online university with slight variations depending on the online school used. Most online nursing schools will run the classes on the university website, or an affiliate website working with the university.

The course instructors post the lecture and assignment material to the website. Once an assignment is started online, there will usually be a designated due date for the assignment to be finished. In most cases the completed assignment will be emailed back to the course instructor. The instructor should be available by email, or may even set specific times for online chat sessions regarding the course work with you.

The online nursing class will only provide the theory part of the degree, with the practical part of the nursing work taking place in either a nursing home or more likely a hospital. The online nursing course will usually provide opportunity for you to gain the experience in a medical environment, in order for you to complete the practical examination. Many nursing courses online now provide virtual lab videos whereby you can see the procedures taking place.  You can re-run them as many times as needed to understand the practical examples.

Some of the traditional examinations will be replaced by the written course assignment, that you return to the instructor. Other exams can be completed online. For other examinations that must be completed on campus, most online nursing schools will provide you with suitable locations for you to take the exam.

You will usually be entitled to the same financial aid and scholarships that a nursing degree program taken offline would provide.
